The Engineer operates the diesel-fired boiler (180 psi) and double action, triple expansion steam engine; taking commands for speed and direction from the Captain through a system of audible bell signals. The Engineer is also responsible for all other mechanical systems on board. (A State of Minnesota Operating Boiler License is required.)
